● What is a toupee?
A men's toupee is a solution for men throughout the world to cover balding and create the illusion of real hair, using a piece of robust but undetectable material with hair attached to it. This creates a toupee hairpiece that can be stuck or clipped onto the head and appear just like real hair.
When wearing a toupee hair wig, people are unable to tell that it is not the real hair from a mans head.
● What is the difference between toupee and wig?
A toupee and a wig are essentially one and the same. In terms of what they actually are, a hair replacement solution is made from a base material with hairs knotted on to it, they are the same and are even sometimes called a 'toupee wig' . The difference is in the fact that a toupee is most commonly used for men's toupees. The word wig is used more commonly in referring to women's wigs and women's toupees is a term that is virtually never used. Yet, men's wigs is a popular term . Toupees for men, however, is still one of the most commonly used terms. Lordhair has many men's wigs and toupees and women's wigs for all hair loss types.
● What are the types of toupee?
Toupess are made of a few different materials. The most common are:
● Polyurethane (aka PU, thin skin or poly);
● Lace (netting using French lace or Swiss lace);
● Mono (plastic fiber used to make netting);
● What are the types of toupee sizes?
In general toupees can be categorized based on the amount of head they cover.
1.Frontal toupee (covers a receding hairline at the front).
2.Mens' topper toupee (covers the very top of the head, for men who still have nape and side hair).
3.Full cap toupee (covers the entire head for completely bald men).
● How to choose toupee color?
Choosing the toupee color is important in order to look natural. The hair color should ideally be as close to your natural hair color so it can blend in with the remaining hair your hair and suit your skin tone. Of course many men's toupee hairpieces can be dyed to create fun colors and express your personality. This involves bleaching and dying, that can impact toupee lifespan, so Lordhair recommends buying the color that has been colored by us directly.
To choose a hair color, you first choose your desired stock hairpiece. When you click on the hairpiece you can then choose the toupee hair color you desire. There are pictures of the color in detail and of the whole toupee hairpiece on a model head in each color.
The system of toupee hair color names is essentially systematic among hair sellers, meaning that a #613 hair wig is a platinum blonde color. Searching "1b toupee" means you will find an off-black color male toupee, no matter which toupee seller you buy from.
● How to find a men's gray toupee?
Grey hair is available on most toupee hair replacement systems. But how much gray do you need? Men's toupee hair colors are classified by color and then by the percentage (%) of grey in the toupee. For example, a #1b30 uses the off-black color #1b in the toupee wig, and has added gray, constituting 30% of the hair. All sellers of gray toupees usually use synthetic hair, because real hair can take on a greenish tint over time. For fully gray or high gray percentage toupee wigs, yak hair is often used. Lordhair does both types of gray hair toupees.
● What is toupee density?
Density refers to how much hair is knotted on to your toupee. The higher the density, the thicker and heavier the hair on the toupee wig looks. Density ranges from extra light 50% to heavy 180%, with 80% toupee density and 100% as the most common for men of most ages. Often older men go for a light toupee density, as even the medium-light can sometimes still be too heavy.

● What is the 2022 best toupee?
The polyurethane based skin hair toupee (Lordhair UTS) is one of the best selling toupee hair replacement systems of 2022. It is one of the most natural looking hair systems and is one of the most practical hairpieces due to it's ease of use. The Lordhair SuperSkin-V is the same as the UTS but with a slightly thicker base, making it longer lasting. The third most popular toupee of 2022 is a French lace hair toupee (Lordhair Champion), known for its breathability.
● Who invented the toupee?
Wigs were worn in ancient times as adornment pieces. Contrary to the belief that wigs are only for women, the toupee resurfaced in the 17th century and was worn primarily by men. I was popularized in part by King Louis XIII who started to wear one to cover balding, then known as a peruke. Wigs of that era started to grow larger and larger, with large base frames and padding to bulk them up. Men's toupees were worn into the 18th century and you can still find "colonial wigs" as Halloween pieces.
Modern wigs, however are much more natural, and are built to appear just like natural hair. With modern technology and modern knotting method techniques, that realism of a toupee hair wig is scarily life-like. These days there are many retailers, like Lordhair, meaning a toupee hair replacement system is available to all men, and not just nobility!

If you want to cover balding hair - yes, absolutely! A toupee hair replacement system is a pain-free, risk-free and cost-effective method of solving hair loss. Why is it a better solution than hair transplants and medicines:
1.Nothing invasive - risk-free.
2.Instant results - 1 week to full hair.
3.Semi-permanent - no regrets!
4.Cost-effective - cost per wear and cost per year is much cheaper than other options.
● How To Attach a Toupee?
Male toupees are attached using one of three things: toupee tape, toupee glue or clips.
How to install a toupee with tape:
1.Prepare the head by shaving, washing and drying the head ensuring there is no moisture left on the head.
2.Peel tape and place onto the toupee, on the areas of thin skin (aka PU). If it is full lace, you can place it on to the lace edges. If it is a toupee with a PU perimeter, the wig tape goes onto the outer edge.
3.Starting at the front line, fold your toupee over and grip the front part of the toupee in your hands. Bring the toupee to your scalp and place the toupee in line at the front hairline, in the spot that you want your hairline to start. Press hard where the tape is, to push the toupee wig down onto the head.
4.Start to roll the hair toupee to the back of the head when rolling back, pull at the toupee to stretch it, this ensures there are no creases in your toupee wig.
5.Once finished, take a head towel and place it over the head, pat the head using reasonable force to ensure the tape adheres.
6.Finish by brushing out the toupee hair wig with some detangler spray. Don't worry about stray toupee hair shedding initially, it is normal that a few hairs fall from a new hair system at first.
How to install a male toupee with wig glue:
1.Follow the same initial steps for prepping the head for a male toupee with wig tape.
2.Once the head has been prepped, most men put the glue onto the head, as opposed to the toupee as is the case for tape.
3.Leave the head to dry for around a minute so the glue is still sticky but not wet, this way it is half dry which is optimal for placing the hair toupee wig correctly.
4.You can start at the front or back, this is often a customer preference, place and press down on either the back or front and roll out slowly, stretching the hairpiece toupee to prevent creases.
5.Once the hair toupee has been placed down, put a towel on the head and pat it down firmly so it adheres well to the head.
● How to install a clip-on toupee?
(A prerequisite for wearing this type of toupee is that you have some existing hair for the clips to latch on to).
1.Spray some detangler on to the toupee hairpiece and brush out the knots.
2.Open the clips on the wig and place the toupee on to the head.
3.Start to clip each clip in place by pressing it with you thumbs, making sure it has latched on to some of your own hair. Do not worry if it is not fitting perfectly at this stage.
4.Once you have clipped the toupee in initially, you can go back and to "straighten it up". Taking one at a time, unclip the toupee clip and then clip it exactly where you want it, so it looks neat.
● Why is my toupee shedding?
Toupee shedding can happen for four reasons:
1.An initial, new hair toupee shed. When the toupee has been newly made and been sitting in its box it will shed a few initial hairs. This is completely normal and bares no relation to the quality of the toupee.
2.Toupee shedding because of incorrect care. If excessive force in brushing has been used, if the toupee often undergoes harsh heat styling and hairspray, these can all reduce lifespan. Read the next question to find out how to avoid toupee shedding and make your toupee hair replacement system last longer.
3.Toupee has come to the end of it's natural life cycle. Just as hair falls out the human head, new hairs grow to replace it. Does this happen with a toupee hairpiece? No, it doesn't as toupees cannot grow their own hair. Therefore toupees naturally will thin the longer they are worn. It is a simple sign that it's time to replace your toupee. Read below to find out how long toupees last for.
4.Toupee shedding due to product fault. In rare circumstances, a faulty product can cause the toupee to shed. If you suspect this is the case, contact customer service (firstname.lastname@example.org) immediately so they can help you.
● How to prolong toupee life?
If you want to avoid premature toupee shedding and learn to maintain your hair toupee properly, the following accessories will be indispensable to you: detangler spray, a wide-toothed comb and a silk pillow.
The key is to avoid unnecessary pull on your toupee hairpiece. Detangler spray makes the hair soft, making it easy to comb out knots. A wide-toothed comb has prongs that are set further apart than a normal comb. This also decreases the pull and means less hair will fall out of the toupee.
Additionally, a tangle-teaser, despite not being wide-toothed, is a miracle hair brush that makes it incredibly easy to comb out toupee knots with minimal hair pull.
A silk pillow case is a prized item that means hair glides along without being pulled, unlike other materials. There is a reason that anything that glides softly through the hands is described as 'silky', that is because it is the nature of silk. Using a silk pillowcase can help to avoid toupee shedding at night time and is especially important for those who have stuck on the toupee hairpiece with wig glue or wig tape.
● How long does a toupee last?
The life of a toupee depends majorly on the material it is made from and the care it has received. Across the industry, it is usually anywhere from 1 month to a year.
Thin skin hair systems often last 1-3 months. Lace hair systems can last 3-5 months. Hybrid skin and lace systems can also last 2-5 months. Mono hair systems can last 5+ months if cared for correctly*.
*(these time frames are average lifespans and are not guaranteed lifespans)
Commonly, if you heat style toupee hair and use hair spray and do not take care with combing, it's lifespan will be at the shorter end. If you do minimal styling, treat it delicately when combing, washing and removing, it can last even longer than the average times suggested.
● What toupee styling products don't break down adhesives?
Alcohol based products can lead to the glue or tape on the toupee debonding. Therefore most men prefer to use a small about of leave-on conditioner or Olaplex styling oil to style the hair. It gives a shine and is non-greasy.
● How much does a toupee cost?
From reputable online toupee hair replacement system sellers like Lordhair, they can start from $209, up to $300 on average. This is in contrast to a salon which often cost in excess of $350, all the way up to $800 at some salons.
By learning to fit a toupee yourself and selecting a Lordhair pre-cut and style, you can save yourself thousands of dollars.
● What is an injected hair toupee?
A toupee with an injected knotting method is one where the hair is "clamped" onto the skin base, as opposed to being knotted in a loop. That way there are no visible knots.
● Hair toupee or hair transplant? Which is better?
A toupee is by far the best option because it has the lowest 'cost per day' or 'cost per wear', it creates INSTANT, voluminous hair, and there is no surgical risks.
Hair transplants candidates are most often disappointed as they did not get the desired volume or length, and hairs tend to grow in different directions, due to to shoddy implantation.
Many victims of hair transplant "botched jobs" turn to hair toupees for a reliable and instant transformation. Since hair systems are semi-permanent, they can be removed at any time with no trace.
● Who is the best toupee manufacturer 2022?
Lordhair is the best and most reliable toupee seller, with free shipping, a 30-day return policy and exceptional customer support, as well as competitive prices on products and dozens of hair colors. Lordhair also offers custom hair toupees so you can achieve any look you want.
● What is a graduated toupee hairline?
This is referring to toupee density. The front hairline will have a lower density than the back or top, this is what creates a natural front hairline. For example on a density toupee of 100% density, the front density may in fact be a few rows of 80% density, followed by a few rows of 70% density until you get to the last row at the edge of the toupee.
● What is the best toupee for older men?
Older men can wear toupees. They often must be aware of two factors - the toupee gray %, and the toupee hair density. When choosing the gray hair percentage, you can pick the percentage anywhere from 1-100%.
First decide the gray % you need, then you can consider the following:
● Ready-to-wear stock hair toupees come in colors with gray of 10% intervals (10% gray, 20% gray, 30% etc.).
● If you want 2% grey or 34% gray, for example, you must make a custom order.
● Gray on stock orders is synthetic (to prevent a green tint over time). Gray constituting over 40% usually works best with yak hair as it is also a natural, soft hair. It must be made on a custom order.
● Toupee hair density is usually lighter for older men, so even a medium-light may feel too heavy. If in doubt go lighter!
● Stock hair pieces only come in medium-light or medium. Light and extra-light toupees must be made on a custom order.
● Can you sleep in a toupee?
Yes, you can sleep in a toupee. It is stuck on with toupee tape or glue and will not fall off. It is advised to use a silk pillow case to avoid hair fall out.
● Can you shower in a toupee?
Yes, you can shower in a toupee. You use shampoo and conditioner as you normally do in the shower and wash it out thoroughly. Showering with your toupee on actually helps to get rid of scalp oils that can cause it to loosen up over time so washing it can help to prolong it's life.
● Can you swim in a toupee?
You can swim in a toupee, the water-resistant toupee glue or toupee tape ensures that it stays in place, even in water. To ensure longevity a swimming cap is a good idea to protect your toupee wig as much as possible.
● Can toupees fall off?
No. Toupees are stuck on with toupee tape or toupee glue which is an adhesive that can endure winds of over 60 mph, skydiving, swimming, showering and a range of activities without budging.
● Is a toupee permanent?
A toupee is technically classed a semi-permanent. This is because a toupee hairpiece can be fixed on and worn consecutively for long periods of time, but it can be removed at any time. A toupee can be used for up to six months, even a year in some circumstances, and the toupee wig is removed for washing and cleaning one a month on average. If for any reason a toupee wearer wants to remove it, he can instantly, with no remains or effect on his head, unlike other methods that alter the cells on the head permanently, and can cause irreversible damage.
● How can I tell my friends I wear a toupee?
Some men fear telling people they wear a toupee. Some men cope with this in different ways, and alter how they deal with it in different ways with different people. Most men trust their family to support them. All strangers and people on the street have no idea that it's a toupee hairpiece. Friends are usually the stumbling block when it comes to feeling comfortable. However close friends also understand and support you. Acquaintances are usually the one that makes men apprehensive.
There are different coping strategies men use:
Not say anything, who will ever ask anyway if the difference is so minimal that it may look like a new hair cut or style?
If the difference is not very dramatic, many men simply say that they have undergone a new type of technology for thinning hair called a "hair patch" "hair topper" or "hair system".
Some men say they wear a toupee wig. There is little difference with women wearing hair extensions or having dental work, and many men do not care too much what people say, because they look good and feel confident.
The majority of the time, when you have figured out a way to create the look for yourself, that you like, what does it matter what others think? Other peoples opinions do not matter when you like what you see in the mirror.
