Hair colour is a compelling form of self-expression and a versatile aspect of appearance. It can help you communicate your personal style and identity without saying a word. Whether you’re looking to give off a professional image or deviate from social norms, choosing the right hair colour for you can reflect your individual identity.
When ordering a men’s hair system it is vital to get the closest colour match possible in order to achieve that natural & realistic look. With so many options to choose from, this can often seem difficult and overwhelming. In this blog, we are going to discuss 3 ways to ease your journey from hair loss to hair confidence.
Option 1 Purchase Colour Ring
The first option we will discuss is purchasing a colour ring. Our colour rings contain over 40 swatches of hair, each labeled with a code corresponding to one of colours on our
colour chart.
Stock Colour Ring
This ring contains all of the colours that our "Ready-to-Wear“ hair systems are available in.
If you already roughly know what colour you would like to order there is the option to purchase specific colour series:
Black Series
Dark Brown Series
Light Brown Series
Custom Colour Ring
This ring contains all of the colours available to choose when customising a hair system, including examples of synthetic grey hairs.
- After receiving your colour ring, please ensure you are checking the colour match in different lightings as this is how people will see your head!
- Natural Daylight Outside - avoiding direct sunlight
- Neutral Lighting Indoors - avoiding yellow tinted lightbulbs and bright spot lights
- Colour rings dohavea cost, however, once you have chosen your colour match you can return the ring to us for a full refund.
Alternatively, when you purchase a hair system shipping is free. Add the colour ring to your order along with your chosen stock hair system, if the colour isn’t right, you can send both items back to us for only one return charge.
- Once you’ve received your colour ring and chosen which swatch is best suited to you, if you have already ordered then you can include your order details (name and order number, chosen colour) in the return package.
Alternatively you can contact your personal customer service representative to let them know which colour you have chosen.
PLEASENOTE - colour rings from other companies will not necessarily match our hair colour charts so you should not use these when deciding which colour to order from us.
Option 2 Send us Pictures
The second option is to send us some photos of your hair in different lighting via email to support@lordhair.com - an expert member of our customer service specialists team will be able to assist you with a colour match!
A few tips to get those perfect photos:
- Lighting - Take a few photos in different types of lighting, these should include: Outdoor Natural Daylight avoiding direct sunlight, Indoor Neutral Lighting under even lighting avoiding yellow tinted lightbulbs and bright spotlights.
You should not use any effects or filters on these images and do not use a mirror as this will misrepresent the true colour of your hair. It is often easier if you have somebody else to take these photos as they can be sure to get good angles.
Before you send us these photos, have a look at them. Think, do they look to you like the colour of your hair?
It is advised to send a few photos of your hair from different angles, showing the full length, root to tip. Send as many photos as you feel necessary.
- Angles - make sure to send us pictures of your hair from both close up and far away. Aim to get photos of your head from these following angles: FRONT,
BACK, ENDS, ROOT (INCLUDING FRONT HAIRLINE).
It may help you to ask a friend or family member to take these photos for you.
Wear your hair down/ loose in the pictures. Do not tie or clip your hair. Show the full length of your hair in the images (root to tip).
PLEASENOTE - our customer service specialist team try their very best to choose an accurate colour match for you however as they are viewing your images through a computer screen there will be a slight variance. For this reason, we cannot guarantee a perfect match. This is why we always recommend the next option - sending us a sample of your real hair.
Option 3 Send Hair Sample
- By far the best option! Nothing is better than seeing your own hair in person in order to give you a match to our hair colour chart..
- The sample only has to be small, 2-3 inches in length! But, the more you are able to send us, the more accurate the colour match will be.
If Your Hair is the Same Colour All Over → Send us one sample
→ Avoid leaving any bald patches on your head by taking small amounts of hair from different areas
→ Place a small piece of tape at one end of the hair sample to keep it neatly tied together
If You Have More Than One Hair Colour
e.g. more blonde at the ends or more grey on one side → Take multiple samples and keep these separate
→ 3-6 samples is ideal - FRONT HAIRLINE, BANGS/FRINGE, TOP FRONT, CROWN, TEMPLES, ABOVE EARS, MIDDLE BACK.
→ Do not forget to label where each sample was taken from
Do not be embarrassed by your grey hairs! Everyone experiences grey hairs during their life and including these hairs in your new system will add realism and ensure an accurate representation of your overall hair colour.
Now that you have your hair sample, pop it in a small sealed bag and follow this link to post it to us:

Choosing a Brand New Men’s Hair Colour
Not everyone would like to choose their natural hair colour for their new hair system. Sometimes you fancy a change, sometimes the hair colour you used to have just isn’t you anymore.
So how do you choose which men’s hair colour suits you best?
- First you need to think about your tones. Your skin colour and eye colour
contribute to this. Knowing what tones you have will help you to decide which colours look best on you.
→ Olive & Darker Skin Tones and Brown or Darker Eyes often mean you have Warm Tones. (most Latinas, Asians and African Americans fall into this category).
→ Fairer skin and blue or green eyes usually mean you have a cool tone.
- If you are struggling to decide which category you fit into, think about how well you Tan in the Sunshine.
→ If you tan quickly and evenly then you likely have Warm Tones.
→ If you burn easily and do not tan very well then you likely have Cool Tones.
→ Some people find they both tan & burn evenly, these people often sway further towards Warm Tones.
→ You can also look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. Green veins = Warm Tones, Blue Veins = Cool Tones.
So Which Colour?
- For Cool Tones choose Ashy and Icy Colours.
- For Warm Tones choose Golden and Warmer Shades.
